June has been deemed Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. It’s a time to “shine a purple light for the millions of people living with Alzheimer’s,” says the Alzheimer’s Association.
Friends and family members of people with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) can support the cause by making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (or other non-profits), wearing purple gear, and turning your Facebook page purple for the month of June. These efforts are aimed at helping to raise awareness and fund the cause to end Alzheimer’s.
Go Purple with A Purpose
In the month of June, literally thousands of Americans will insert a purple “END ALZ” icon to turn their Facebook page purple in honor of the annual Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness month. Many people will sign up for the Alzheimer’s awareness day by hosting an event via a corporate endeavor. The Color Purple for Your Facebook Page
On June 21st thousands of Americans will turn their Facebook profile purple, wear purple to work, make a donation, or share their story of a friend or family member with AD.
Check with your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter to see if they offer posters to hang in the office, or materials to help you and your co-workers “go purple” in honor of the event. Some chapters can also provide an article for your company’s newsletter.
Whether you decide to get involved by sharing information about your own AD diagnosis or by honoring a family member with Alzheimer’s, you will be instrumental in taking a stand against the stigma of AD. For more ideas on how you can get involved, call 800-272-3900
